Gavin DeWitt Talks Professional Training at Island Fitness

  • Before a trainer can be hired at Island Fitness, they need a nationally recognized certification or a degree in Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology.
  • Our path to success starts by certifying our trainers through the Ortho-Kinetics® Institute.
  • The Ortho-Kinetics® Professional Trainer certification is recognized nationally as one of the most innovative and advanced training certifications in fitness.
  • At Island Fitness, Apprentice Trainers complete a 3–4-month internship program where they receive daily hands-on training. The course covers deep understanding of posture and anatomy, joint range of motion, functional movement, programming, and exercise technique.
  • Between onsite training and studying, trainers often spend close to 500 hours to master the material.
  • This education brings our training team together, by creating a base system and giving us a common language and understanding.
  • As a team, we meet regularly to practice skills and to advance the education further.
  • Ultimately, we create a solid foundation by which trainers can continue their learning through Ortho-Kinetics and by studying other certifications to distinguish themselves further.
  • Our team-based approach allows us to focus on what is best for our client and helps us take each individual client on their own terms.
